SwiftPath Patient Education Program

SwiftPath Patient Education Program

SwiftPath is a revolutionary new method that combines patient education, cutting edge surgical techniques, and the latest research in communication and surgical recovery. SwiftPath focuses specifically on minimally invasive joint surgeries of the hip and knee.

Protocols, Training & Tracking

The SwiftPath method is based on a foundation of three pillars – Protocols, Training, and Tracking.  The protocols were born from  SwiftPath Round Table Meetings, where some of the best minds in the industry discussed and deliberated on the how to create the best possible outcomes for surgical patients. Consensus from the RoundTables and development of protocols led to the creation of the content for the SwiftPath training that patients, surgeons, and supporting medical staff must complete. The SwiftPath program also includes a patient tracking system that helps surgeons track patient outcomes and monitor patients in an outpatient setting. For example, if one were to get a total knee replacement surgery, instead of having to spend 1-3 days overnight at the hospital, one would be able to return to the comfort of their home to recover.

SwiftPath is founded on the belief that Patient Engagement is going to be seen as the blockbuster drug of the century. Higher levels of patient communication and engagement are directly correlated to quicker recovery rates for patients undergoing joint surgery.

Patient Guide

All patients will receive a Patient Guide, written by surgeons, that will help guide them through their pre-op, surgery, and post-op recovery plan. All SwiftPath patients are also required to attend a JointCamp with their caregiver. The Patient Guide and JointCamp are both designed to inform and engage the patient in the process of their surgery. From tips on arranging their home for joint surgery recovery to post-op exercises and drugless pain relief methods, the curriculum is meant to shorten recovery time and lessen dependence on potentially addictive opioid painkillers.

The SwiftPath Patient Education Program teaches patients to identify risk factors that could slow their recovery down,  manages their pain both by preparing pre-surgery and by teaching them key rehabilitation exercises and tips. The more involved a patient is in their medical treatment and surgery, the more likely they are to be compliant with their surgeon’s instructions. In other words, by having patients take a more active role in their surgical preparation and recovery, you are allowing them to take ownership and responsibility for their wellbeing.

The Difference

Traditional joint surgery is often traumatic for both the patient and the patient’s body. Traditional joint surgery also takes months of recovery and offers little in the way of mental and emotional preparation. The trauma of surgery is often followed by a round of pain medication that could result in addiction or overdose. Pain management is an important part of recovery – the body cannot heal properly when the stress of tremendous pain is added to surgical wounds. However, with proper preparation and education, patients can take lower doses of pain medication for a shorter amount of time. By learning how to avoid the most common causes of post-op pain, utilizing over the counter medications, pain relieving stretches and exercises, and strengthening the muscles around the joint as much as possible before surgery, patients can overcome the need for dangerous pain medications!
